Shari and I, when answering “what’s your secret for being married 60 years, always answer Sex, Kids and Rock-N-Roll”. We have defied the conventional aging wisdom … retire at 55, 60 or 65 and start the dying process. We, on the other hand, started a new business at the age of 70, sold it when we were 76 and started a new career … co-writing this book. The title is our mantra signifying our love of our children, grandchildren and great grand-sons that have kept us young, so long as we love each other, are sexually active and have danced together for 60 years.
We’re former nursing home administrators, owners of nursing homes, and health industry consultants, but we’re also in our late-seventies (Birth Age). We don’t look or act like it though. In fact, according to Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen’s Real Age® Test at www.realage.com our “Real Age” is mid-fifties. Millions of people have taken the Real Age test, and we promote it heavily to help people, who are applying our 12 Habits, measure their success.
We base the Rhoads 12-Step program on our own success and our efforts in servicing and owning nursing homes where we help 43,500 nursing home patients rehabilitate themselves, improve or restore their functionality, and be discharged from nursing homes back to their own homes and community-based programs. Unheard of in the current floundering long term care business model. Ironically, the elderly will suffer the most under the current and proposed health care plans. Chronic illnesses will be excluded from most health plans and left to Medicare and Medicaid to pay. It is so true that our 12 health preservation habits create a healthy lifestyle for aging that prevents trillions of dollars wasted on ineffective treatment of chronic illnesses.
As the Wall Street Journal recently reported, life expectancy in the United States is down for the first time ever. Why? Americans are generally not healthy due to harmful lifestyles. Plus, the Baby Boomers are flooding the health care industry with multiple chronic illnesses. We want to reverse that trend with our book about aging habits for men and women who are 50+ (and their families).
Our 12 Habits to Reverse Premature Aging (93K words) is self-help or “self-health” for middle-aged readers and seniors who want to be as happy and healthy as possible—for as long as possible—by improving their lifestyle and habits. It’s a fun and easy-to-use book based on our proven 12 Rhoads Habits that’s designed to help readers (and those they love) live forever younger, stronger, longer (or at least avoid a stay in assisted living facilities or a nursing home)!
Most experts who write books about health and wellness: 1) Don’t focus specifically on reversing premature aging, 2) Don’t propose how to prevent chronic illness as a solution to habitual problems such as mood, diet, exercise or sex drive, 3) Speak in boring and difficult-to-understand theories and “medical-speak”, 4) Offer just one type of solution, often in the form of a pill that, nine times out of ten, doesn’t fix the underlying problem, 5) Don’t fully understand the aging audience they’re prescribing solutions for, and/or 6) Aren’t credible due to lack of tangible evidence that their offerings do work. Instead, here we are in our late seventies living young, acting young and being young … the true Fountain of Youth (where middle age is 70 and old age is 120).
The 12-step program covers all twelve areas of life that people concerned about aging want and need to know about. And the relatable style, personal stories, and unique format breaks the mold of the typical “how to” book. In addition, we love life—and each other. Our positive male/female perspective makes the book more interesting. And, we’re the ultimate example of what’s possible when you follow our “Sex, Kids and Rock-n-Roll” 12 Lifestyle Habits.
To support our program, we’ve delivered more than 200 workshops, training seminars and self-health presentations, including state and national events over the last forty years. Most recently, we’ve begun giving workshops to corporate Human Resource departments regarding the 12 Rhoads Habits. And, as a nationally known consultant on Medicare and Medicaid, Jerry has a vast network of promotional partners willing to help promote How to Live, Forever Young.
We’ve also written and published industry newsletters for our clients and nursing home associations. Jerry has appeared on TV and radio as an expert and weekly radio show host for a program called “Focus on Health Care”. And our sole focus for the foreseeable future is promoting our book and participate in health care reform. Our main website is currently www.lifestylesforaging.com and we have more details about our project in our book proposal. Just email me at jerry.l.rhoads@gmail.com and request a copy.
